Most common bad food habits

"Over time, habits become automatic, learned behaviors, and these are stronger than new habits you are trying to include in your life"

Most of us are people of habit. We live within our familiar routines. The problem is that we get so comfortable in our ways that it's hard to give up those old habits.
But if you're serious about eating healthier, you need to change those bad eating habits, and start thinking differently about your diet and lifestyle. No one can eat perfectly all the time, but sometimes when unhealthy eating patterns become a way of life, one can face a major health issue. To break the trend of unhealthy eating habits, you need to first determine what they are.

Eating too late at night
Due to busy schedules during the day, we tend to skip meals or just eat whatever is available on the point, but we sit down in the evening to enjoy big, large meals. Some people are late sleepers and end up binging while surfing the net, watching TV or working. Night-time eating often consists of excessive calorie consumption. The body is more likely to store those calories as fat and gain weight. Eating late at night can also lead to several health hazards like an increase in blood sugar levels, heart diseases, and acidity.

Avoid eating late at night, and find interesting things to do that takes away the boredom.

Skipping Breakfast
As mentioned many times in my earlier blogs, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast gives you the boost of energy to take on your day. Without this fuel, chances are, you’ll just overeat later.

Just make sure that your morning meal is something that will sustain you for a few hours - it should include some fiber and protein.

Not Drinking Enough Water
Our bodies are about 60% water. Therefore, staying hydrated is important. If we do not stay hydrated, our physical performance can suffer. Water is essential for your brain cells, kidneys, and other bodily functions. To function properly, all the cells and organs of the body(including your skin)need water. When dehydrated, the skin can become more vulnerable to skin disorders and wrinkling.

Do drink your water - it makes your whole body feel good!

Eating on the move

In a busy life, sometimes there is no time to sit down and enjoy or even have relaxed meals. Eating on the run or buying food through a takeaway may become a habit with some people. When you eat quickly on the go, your mind is on other things and not on how much you are eating and what all you're consuming. It will make it harder for you to experience how satiated or full you are. That can lead you to eat more than you're hungry for, either now or later.

By eating in a relaxed manner, you will be much less likely to overeat.

Eating too fast

Whether a snack or a meal, when you eat like a horse, it doesn’t give your brain time to catch up with your stomach. Your brain doesn’t signal that you’re full until about 15 to 20 minutes after you’ve started eating. If you gulp down your meal speedily, you could end up eating way more than you need. Start to take notice of everything you put into your mouth. Once you become aware of what you're eating, you'll start to realize how you need to improve your habit.

Not remembering to chew, chew, chew

To save time, we often gulp down the food without breaking it in the mouth. The entire digestive process starts in your mouth, with chewing. Chewing allows your body to extract the greatest possible amount of nutrients from the food you eat. Eat your food slowly and enjoy it. Allow yourself to enjoy the company of your dining companions.

Noisy chewing

It is either a way of publicly showing how much you're enjoying yourself or you simply not care about munching when polite eaters are carefully chewing their food.

People who chew food with their mouth open, most of the time are not aware they are doing it. So, the next time you eat, pay attention to whether you are chewing with your mouth open. If you are, please stop. There's no need to eat like a pig.

It is never too late to change bad food habits.  Try to gradually unite with new habits over time, and before you know it, you will be developing a healthier lifestyle. You'll see how good it makes you feel and how good healthy food can taste.
